A Little Rant About Disqus

This post is being written as i am totally sick of reading a blog post which i obviously like and am interested in and then wanting to leave a comment when i come accross this thing called "Disqus".

For those not familiar with Disqus, you must Login using twitter, facebook or through google in order to submit your comment. Now i personally dont like having to actually login to something first before being able to comment and i will never ever use this.

This is so disappointing for me as some of my favourite blogs and bloggers use disqus and i will never be able to leave a comment on their fabulous blogs but this is obviously their choice to use it for whatever reasons they have.

I do believe that a thing like disqus is offputting not only to me but to many others and i do also believe that as we all love comments on our blog,at least it should be made straightforward enough to do so without having to actually "Login" to something before doing so.I also know that alot of people will not agree with me at all on this.

I will also say now that my opinion on this will never change regardless of what might be said to me about how amazing this thing is and nobody will ever change my mind.

Anyway,rant over,have a nice day,

Hollie

  1. I use Disqus and while I agree that logging in is off putting, I myself had to log into google to use the comment section here! I think it all comes down to personal preference. I know that Disqus works a lot better with Wordpress blogs so maybe its that?
My Disqus account keeps me logged in so its automatically there when I go to comment on anyones blog.
I'd also much prefer verified users commenting on my blog than freely and without any kind of censorship and spam filter.
I guess it just comes down to what works best for you and your blog but I think its a shame that you're put off commenting on others because of the app that works best for them.

  4. I agree with you but I'd include all comment widgets out there. I was using google + for a while until I noticed people without a google account weren't able to leave a comment. I'd like to be able to include a personalized comment section where nobody had to login into in order to leave one.

  5. I totally agree with you that it's annoying to login but I don't know a way around it really. With Disqus I only had to set up my account and login once so now it always remembers me. If I want to comment on someone's post and they are using google+ then I actually have to switch browsers because I only have a google+ account set up under my personal email.

  8. I felt the same about Disqus at first, but once I'd created an account I've found it as easy to use as anything else. I think it makes sense for bloggers to make it as easy as possible for people to comment on their blogs, but I guess the issue is that not everyone has the same set-up. x

  9. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts Hollie! I agree to Imii, Disqus has been the easiest way to manage blog comments and to reply to people. I find most comment sections of blogs have a log in system, whether it has been the original blogger form (log in with google account, not everyone uses google), wordpress (again not everyone uses wordpress). I feel Disqus allows such an easy access to leave a comment as you log in once and the site remembers you. Also when a blogger replies to a comment, the person receives an email which I find quite nice so the conversation/dialogue and interaction of the comment section keeps going. I hope to speak to you more often (I feel like we haven't done so in a while) and I've noticed that Disqus is switched off in my blog's mobile version, so people can still leave a comment through the normal blogger form.
